Mission Statement
The mission of PCS is to provide empirically supported treatment,
specific to sexually abusive behaviors and for clients with
nonsexual, aggressive, conduct related behavioral dyscontrol. By
reeducating young men to respect and value themselves and others,
and by changing behaviors and thinking deficits, the cycles of
abusive and aggressive behaviors can be interrupted, modified and
altered. The mission for the Sexual Offender Program is consistent
with the nationally-recognized goal of all abusive behavior
treatment: “No More Victims.” For the behavioral program clients,
the mission is also to promote effective self-management to the
extent that they may return to their communities without resorting
to aggression and antisocial attitudes towards others. Our mission
recognizes victims in all aspects of our treatment process and
embraces the need for corrective but positive treatment dimensions.
In both programs, the reunification of clients with their families
and protection of any victims in the community guides our treatment
philosophy.
Safety, customer service and best practice made up the overriding
principles that shape PCS philosophy in the provision of care:
Safety in the milieu and school setting is the most critical
priority that requires full attention from the PCS administrative
team to ensure the safety of both patients and staff. Safety
necessitates a consistent and vigilant focus on “hand off
communication” with staff. The Patient Safety Committee is an
oversight committee whose primary responsibility is to track and
trend safety issues and concerns related to the milieu and physical
plant. The focus of PCS’s Handle with Care training is verbal
de-escalation and redirection. Handle with Care restrictive holds
are the only approved techniques utilized in the management of
clients endangering themselves or others.
The customer service aspect of PCS expectation demands that the
staff throughout the organization exceed expectations of respect,
courtesy, and compassion. Customer service is not limited to
patients/clients/students and their families, but also to all
external providers/referral sources and staff within the
organization. Behavioral healthcare demands a sophisticated
awareness of customer service by providing the right amount of
compassion and support without over providing or enabling the
necessary support skills individuals must develop.
Best practices demands full investment in our staff for the
continued growth and development of all areas within an
organization. PCS is invested in continued examination of quality
assurance and performance improvement activities throughout the
residential care. Directed attention to best practices is
responsible for the creation of a Risk Manager and Quality Assurance
Coordinator position, introduction of Handle with Care, safety and
trauma informed care, new training applications for verbal
de-escalation, revised clinical assessment processes, cultural
sensitivity, family integration, increased disposition planning, and
Leadership training for the staff.
